Looking west from the tower at night, the city below glows with light. The earliest scheme for the Chrysler Building included four floodlights at the corners of the fifty-sixth-floor terrace and another on top of the dome trained on the spire. The radiating tube lighting that decorates the crown today was also allegedly part of this scheme but was not installed until 1981.
